Grains of Sand

Grains
of Sand
Games Without Frontiers
Peter Gabriel
Some kids were playing at the beach
They each made sand castles
Defending them saying...

"This is mine!"

They kept their castles separate.

And would not allow any mistakes
about which was who's.
When the castles were finished

one jealous child kicked over another's,
spoiling all the other's work.
The other child flew into a rage.

He pulled the jealous child's hair
and punched him in the face.
He called out to the others, saying,

"He ruined my castle!
Come, all of you,
and help me to give him
the punishment he deserves!"
The other children came to help him.

They beat the jealous child,
and
completely destroyed his castle.
Once done,

they went back to playing
in their own sand castles.

Each child proclaimed,

"This is my castle!
No one else can have it.
Stay away!"
Eventually, the sun began to set
and it started getting dark.

The children thought about going home.
No one thought about their sand castle.

No one cared anymore.
One child kicked hers over.

Another pushed his down with both hands
Still another just stamped all over it.
They turned their backs
and walked away,
heading back home for dinner.

They forgot all about the sand castles.
